Opti Zippers

“What happens when two centipedes hug each other? A living zipper”

A joke from Delfi

Opti’s selection includes various types of zippers, and by choosing between them, you are guaranteed to find a zipper with appropriate strength, purpose and appearance that suits your needs. The strength of the zipper is related to the width of its teeth and is measured in millimeters – the higher the number, the stronger the zipper. In everyday use, the most common zippers have tooth widths of either 4 mm or 6 mm. When choosing a zipper, the weight of the fabric must also be taken into account. Thinner fabrics usually require lighter zippers, while thicker fabrics require stronger zippers.

There are primarily four different types of zippers available:

  • For universal spiral—or polyester zippers—the spiral is sewn or woven into the zipper tape (S-technology). They are available in two different teeth widths, 4 mm and 6 mm, and are the most durable in terms of strength. Closed-end zippers are mostly used for skirts, pants, blouses, and home textiles. Open-end zippers are used for jackets and coats. Spiral zippers are recognizable by their yellow label.
  • Invisible zippers are mostly used for sewing dresses, skirts, and pants. They are suitable for garments where minimal visibility of the zipper is desired. Invisible zippers are recognizable by their yellow label.
  • For plastic tooth zippers, plastic granules are molded into the zipper tape. They are available in two different teeth widths, 4 mm and 6 mm. The zippers come in closed-end, open-end, and two-way open designs. Closed-end zippers are mostly intended for sewing fleeces, sweaters, and sports bags. Open-end and two-way open zippers are especially suitable for jackets. Plastic tooth zippers are recognizable by their blue label. The most innovative product among plastic tooth zippers is the black zipper with a reflective strip, available in lengths from 30 cm to 90 cm.
  • For metal zippers, the teeth are individually pressed onto the zipper tape. The teeth are usually made from durable brass. They are available in two different teeth widths, 4 mm and 6 mm. Metal zippers come in closed-end, open-end, and two-way open designs. Closed-end zippers are used in women’s and men’s casual wear. Open-end and two-way open zippers are mainly used for sewing leather jackets and coats. Metal zippers are recognizable by their gray label. The most popular product among metal zippers is the zipper with a denim tape and 4.5 mm gold teeth, available in lengths of 6 cm, 8 cm, 10 cm, 12 cm, 15 cm, 18 cm, and 20 cm.

Opti’s retail range of zippers includes a basic selection of zipper types, lengths and colors. Each zipper has a barcode for identifying the product and a label with product information required for display. A large part of the Opti-branded zippers, which are sold in Scandinavia, Central Europe and the Baltics, are produced in Estonia.
