The Anchor brand has 250 years of experience selling craft supplies in 67 countries. The company is built on the experience and passion of several generations, producing high-quality embroidery threads, crochet threads and yarns that are used all over the world for various types of handicraft. The Anchor brand was founded in 1866 in Paisely, Scotland, when the Clark family adopted the name Anchor for the production of embroidery threads. In 1896, Coats, another family of sewing thread specialists from Paisley, joined forces with the Clarks. Together, they began operating under the name J&P Coats, becoming both the world’s largest thread manufacturer as well as exporter. It was of utmost importance for the Coats family to protect the quality and color standards of their products in all their European factories. As such, great care was taken to ensure that the Coats’ global quality standards and precise guidelines for their products would continue to be met. All of these standards are still kept, even today.
