Rowan Yarns

“As are the yarns, so is the fabric.”

A crafters’ proverb

The Rowan brand was named after the beautiful Rowan trees that grow on the banks of the River Holme in Yorkshire. In 1978, Rowan began operations in premises above a grocery store near Huddersfield, initially specializing in the production of knitting kits. Later, the team moved to a nearby former textile factory and still operates in that area today.

The company’s founders, Stephen Sheard and Simon Cockin, wanted to produce high-quality yarns that would perfectly match current trends – yarns made from natural fibers and in a wide selection of colors. They focused on tones which would be timeless in terms of their design, and these values are still at the core of the Rowan brand. Therefore, knitwear made from Rowan yarns will most likely be fashionable even in 10-20 years time.

Why do well-known crafters prefer Rowan yarns?

In the Rowan yarn selection, you will find luxurious yarns with a natural composition. Wool of different origins is used, the highest quality of which is Merino wool from the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands are considered to be some of the highest-quality wool producers and their Merino wool is world-class. Therefore, you can understand why most professional crafters do not use ordinary yarns, but rather would choose Rowan yarns for their projects. It is the same reason why Formula 1 cars don’t run on 95 petrol and airplanes don’t fly on turbodiesel.

In addition, cashmere, mohair and silk can also be found in the composition of Rowan yarns. Knitting needles would eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner without taking a break. The brand’s signature yarns are tweed yarns with various compositions, the most well-known of which is the favorite of designers and knitters – the Felted Tweed DK. Rowan’s most popular yarns of all time are Kidsilk Haze, Fine Lace, Big Wool, Brushed Fleece, Kid Classic and Handknit Cotton.
